| i would say none. the mollies can get up to 4 inches so thats 8 without the otos which would bring u to an overstocked amount |

| is the female mollie pregnant? they can get pretty testy at times, especially if she's going to drop fry soon. |

| I don't think a pair of mollies can work. One of them will constantly victimise the other. So I am going to go against the grain and say get yourself another female. |

| I agree with what everyone's said so far. That is, your tank is definately stocked (if not over stocked) right now, but a pair of Mollies (or any livebearers) is not a very good situation. It is possible to maintain a slightly overstocked tank if you do lots of water changes, it is heavily planted, and the fish are hardy, but overstocking is a very bad idea when you have Otos. Otos are extremely sensitive to nitrates, and Mollies are very big waste producers. So...I think the best thing would be to get another tank. If you had, for example, two 10gals, you could have one with 3 Mollies and the other with 6-8 Otos or 4-5 Otos plus a Betta. I definately wouldn't put a single male Platy with the Mollies as he would harrass the female, and Mollies aren't compatable with Bettas. However, if you absolutely can't get another tank then your current setup may work. Just keep an eye on the Mollies. |

| Im really considering putting my other molly in there, as i think it might shift the balance of power in the tank. Not totally sure yet, but its seeming like im going to have to do something about the agressive female. I might remove an oto cat to balance it out, but those three are so much fun to watch when they're playing. Thanks for the input -- Nat |

| You're considering putting your molly where? Sorry, it's early morning and havne't had my coffe!
Basically, with livebearers, it's recommended to have 3 fish of the same species, and if mixed-gender, then more females than males.
Like 0morrokh says, otos are really sensitive to nitrates. Also, otos really are better off with at least 3, but the more the better. So please do not isolate them from each other. Although some people keep just the one oto with their betta, so I guess it can work, but I really wouldn't encourage it.
Is getting another tank a possibility? |

u can remove one otto and put another female molly, the rule is 1 male for 2 females. |

| I think removing one oto will hardly make a difference to your bioload. They are negligeable polluters. Mollies, however, are huuuge polluters and should count for more than a Gallon per inch of fish for that reason. Also, otos really do better in larger numbers, so removing one would not be the best stocking decision on that account, IMO. |

| Please don't remove just one Oto. They really do need friends. If you're going to move them then you should move all three. The bioload problem is not with the Otos but with the Mollies. The Otos don't produce that much bioload, and the Mollies wouldn't care about higher nitrates anyway (up to 20 is fine with them, while Otos need it much lower). Three Mollies, however, produce a lot of waste, and the higher nitrates would stress out the Otos. |
