thanks for the hint, Kate, you are right!!
So, here is the questions I posted elsewhere: copy/pasted
I have won a 55g tank and my days are consumed now by researching fish I would like to have. I have lists, and lists, and lists, reworking them until I can find what I believe will work together. ( I am expanding my fish world from bettas to the whole rest of the freshwater fish world!!)
The sail fin mollies really caught my eye...and I thought I would like these in my tank. So many beautiful colours and I would have room for a group of them. So I have been on the web and am finding some conflicting info, as we always do. So the latest I find is that they are not good community fish, and should be kept in a species tank, or with guppies. Apparently these girls are baby machines...LOL. While guppies are beautiful, I don't want guppies.
Do you have any info to offer regarding community fish, salt or no salt ( I have seen testimonials saying you need salt, you don't need salt).....
Those little fat mollies are cute too...they look like someone blew them up with a straw....LOL...when I first saw them at Walmart I thought they were all sick..( such a bozo)...
Have now added:
I am considering these to choose from: Rainbows ( Red Irian; Boeseman; Praecox); High Fin Mollies ( I
really like these ); swordtails; Platies (Mickey mouse;TopSail); Corydoras ( for sure); oto or clown pleco; perhaps tetras (True Rummy Nose; Bleeding Hear; Black Skirt; Head & Tail light) or peaceful barbs (Albino cherry Barbs); Patrizi Killifish ; Gouramis ( but these apparently aren't always compatible with all of the above).
This is new to me, so I don't want to get complicated. I do not want all small fish, and I would like to have as many different as possible, while still making small shoals of those that like friends. I am not really interested in breeding at this time, but do want some flashy boys with small harems!! ( So shallow of me).
So....that should leave it all open to lots of input...thanking you in advance...I have been on the computer the whole morning, well now into afternoon, my hubby is away until early evening -- I really must get mobile and move a few things around so it looks like I have done something..LOL
I am anxious now that I have my sweetie female betta all settled in, to get this 55g off the floor, decorated; cycled ( I have Bio Spira waiting in the fridge) and then start to fill. I may be able to get some of these guys over the border in Minnesota, or will travel to my new favourite fish store, and he said he would order me anything I wanted that he didn't have).
Surely I am rambling.....I am hoping for much input. So, off to do something...........I leave my cat laying in front of the monitor waiting to tell me when there are some replies.
thanks, Kate, pics still coming...sorry. Val
