Proposed Tank Stocking List

ok... when ever my tank is cycled I get to put some fish in... not all at once but here is the proposed list

2 x Angel Fish = 12"

6 x Silver tip Tetra = 12"

1 x Dwarf Gourami = 2"

2 x Ghost Shrimp

3 x Malaysian Trumpet Snails

total fish inches are 26".... IIRC shrimp and snails do not add to the equation

so 26" out of 45" avaliable is pretty decent... I dont know if I want to add my pleco.. because if I do then there goes the rest of my space... I'll see

now to just wait for the tank to cycle.. get some decor for the fish and wait...

Re: Proposed Tank Stocking List

A smaller algea eater would be a bristlenose catfish. It only gets to about six inches.

I would also consider adding a mate for your dwarf gouramis.

Otherwise your tanks sounds awsome. Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Proposed Tank Stocking List

The Angel fish and dwarf gourami (3" actually) tend to not get along, and the angel fish need about 30g for an adult pair because they need swimming room and require more than the average 1g per inch. They also prefer taller tanks.

The gourami are also likely to eat the shrimp.

For a Pleco, you'd want a minimum of a 55g tank. They also need swimming room and are heavy waste producers. A school of Otos would do a great job on the algae with much less bioload.

Re: Proposed Tank Stocking List

my tank is a 45 gallon dims are 36x12x24 so its pretty tall

the pleco is currently hanging out in a 5 gallon tank.. petco didn't tell me how big he would grow.. so I think 45 gallons would be better

Re: Proposed Tank Stocking List

I could.. or put my common pleco in the 45 so he isn't trapped in a 5 gallon

That'd work...but it doesn't take long for common plecos to grow.

Re: Proposed Tank Stocking List

We had 5 silver tips in our 120g...they are very aggressive, they chased everyone around. They don't really stand out in the tank either.

I wouldn't worry about adding the Pleco. If you can grow your angels to 6" in that size tank, you might be the first. Angels need hundreds of gallons of water to reach full size. I house mine in 120 gallons, and I know they will never grow that large.

I happen to be an advocate for the snails. Several were introduced into my tank on plants and they seem to help keep things clean and add a certain uniqueness to the aquarium. If their population gets out of control, the introduction of a loach will fix the problem.

With regard to the number of angels kept, my experience has been to keep groups of them (> 6) or two. Angels will pair up, and they will become territorial if they have a reason to be.
