breeding grass

hi i've been trying to plan what to do so i can breed guppies. i was told that i'd probably need breeding grass, but none of my lfs' carry live plants and their fake plants are allways broken.

I have been trying to look online for somewhere that sells it so i know where to get it when i'm ready to buy it, but i can't find it anywhere + it's hard to find somewhere that will ship to the UK.

any ideas?? Is it hard to get?

thanks

Re: breeding grass

guppies are pretty easy to breed. i don't know that you really need breeding grass, just somewhere the fry could hide. i know i've had lots of guppy fry, but i've never had breeding grass

Re: breeding grass

I have a couple old plastic breeding grass things still (I think)... they're 3 clumps in a triangle base. You can have them, but I'm not sure how to get them to you... we have that annoying ocean in the way...

Re: breeding grass

yea. it would be great if i could have them if your offereing, but the question is how? If only the ocean wasn't there!! - would be kind of wierd though.

griffin - what kind of plants did u have where the fry hid?

thanks!!

Re: breeding grass

i had java moss, hornwort, sunset hygro, water sprites at the time (that i can remember) i think something like java moss or hornwort would probably work better as long as you're not concerned about appearances

Re: breeding grass

on ebay there's loads of online pet shops. just search fish or aquarium and theres loads of buy-it-now's that are cheap. my plants worked out at a £1 each...and no snails! the plants i got from pets at home were infested with snails and blanket weed stuff. i got mine from epetz-direct thru ebay and they were fab. they were sent out next day and with me the day after that. they come in a box that fits thru letterbox too, so you dont have to wait in for a courier/postman or have them sent back to sorting office as wont fit thru letterbox etc. got my java moss from ebay too! as cant find any in lfs.
good luck!

Re: breeding grass

cool thanks tan!!

I always find it hard to find places that ship to the uk.

I know what you mean about the plants from Pets at Home, they are not of best condition.

I will try that on E-bay. Did you go to E-bay.co.uk or E-bay.com?

thanks

pets at home done have much in good condition!! lol!

ebay.co.uk

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/AQUA-PLANTS...3aUKQ3a3QQtZkm

they go by the name aqua plants too. here's the link. 50 plants may sound like alot, but thats 10 bunches of 5 stalks! still cheap though and mine came in good condition. i got the 50 and the 100 and he makes sure you dont get 2 plants the same which is nice.

good luck!

Re: breeding grass

thanks tan!!

do you feed your plants?

I might get the pack of 25plants - might be better for me.

Re: breeding grass

the pack of 25 plants is 25 stems, each in bunches of 5, so 5 plants if that makes sense?! you've prob got them by now anyway!!
i did use fertiliser (king british), but i ran out and didnt use it for a few weeks, but got some more now. i 1st bought it cos the plants i got from pets at home went yellow in a week (as well as being infested with snails and stringy algae :P), so needed to revive them. it worked anyway, so carried on using it, and as my plants have been growing fast figured it would do no harm! dont think its essential though as tap water carries alot of nutrients and minerals etc. i guess like house plants and garden plants...they do better with fertiliser, but certainly wont come to any harm at all if you dont. so its up to you i guess!
