Java Moss Isn't Growing

Okay, I just got about 4 square inches of java moss, and I want it to grow for some decoration, but, I have no current fish tank lighting other than the window a bout 3 feet away. I did buy a light for it, but it wont be set up 'till 5 weeks and it isn't designed for fish tanks, just common house hold lighting (it's energy saving, btw).

Any suggestions for faster growth?

Thanks

The natural light would do. You could get your table light or desk light as temporary until you get the other one set up. But it depends on the watt and how many plants you have in there. To get it to grow faster, IMO, co2 or aquatic plant fertilizers.

As long as there is some light, even natural ,then Java moss will grow.

Hello BadWolf. Hope you're doing well. As long as your Java Moss isn't turning brown, it should be ok.

Agreed. Java Moss doesn't need much light to get growing. I even have it grow in one of my tanks that is only lit by the normal room lighting. Adding co2 will usually get it to grow faster, so will using liquid fertilizer. Just don't go overboard if you use the ferts as the moss doesn't require very much nourishment.

Agreed with others regarding light and ferts.
Excel as a carbon source can turn Moss brown or so Ive heard. Mine seems to do fine with it. My moss seems to grow in spurts. It feels like it doesnt grow at all and then next thing I know its gotten alot bigger. I like to take pictures of the plant growth so when you feel like things arent growing you can look back and see they actually are.
