Floating "Pond Cover" in aquarium... would you do it?

I picked up some floating pond plants and a couple of scoops of floating pond cover (fairie moss) I was thinking of putting it in my new tropical tank to block out the light... the type of fish I want don't care for light from what I read... Do you think it would clog the filter?

Be sure and Not Get Duckweed...do not!!!! It gets in places that have never seen a plant!!! Anything else ought to work. Don't know about fairy moss.

Well, I use duckweed in my 55g. My mollies love love love it. I keep my duckweed trapped within a styrofoam ring floating on the surface (like a feeding ring). This keeps the duckweed from overtaking my tank and it keeps it from being pushed under by the HOB filter output, which could cause it to get into everything.

I suggest the floating ring idea for any pond cover type plant. Works great for me!

Great suggestion iloveengl! Thanks!!!

Here's a pic of what I got (i found it online) Mine is a mix, but mostly the red... (I guess it's not actually "fairie moss."

PS. I also got a floating plant that looks like a cabbage... I need to ID this as well... Anyone know? I assume if it's ok in a pond it's ok for fish but I want to be sure.

Update: it's a water lettuce.

Wow that's really pretty! Your goldy will definitely love any pond cover, too. She'll scarf it faster than my mollies

The Goldie will keep duckweed in control and most other plants as well. the only problem with pond plants like water lettuce in an aquarium is that require more light than an aquarium usually gives them.
Love the moss.
