algea differences?

In one tank I have green algae in the other i have brown algae I was wondering what is the difference and from my point of view algae is inevitable, so how can I make it so that i have only green algae because aesthetically it looks much better to me.

Also is brown algae possibly harmful?

Thanks

brown is diatoms usually ..which is normal for newly setup tanks under about a year old...green can be a bunch of different kinds.....overfeeding, overstocked, too much wattage per tank size of lighting, direct sunlight are a few reasons...getting a pic would help the members identify the green type ..

Hmm it looks like fuzzy green velvet-like algae growing glass... It looks just just like Diatoms algae but green. I dont mind because i have the magnet cleaner and let it go crazy on one side of the tank so it competes for the carbon dioxide that would otherwise help new algae grow on the rest of the tank. Thats my logic anyway not sure how true it is...

Also the tank may have a bit to much lighting. It certainly is my brightest tank.

Thanks

Sounds like green hair algae...you can search for it here on fishlore as ive seen a few threads on it. usually unless you are heavily planted, you dont want more than 1-1.5 watts per gallon of lighting....
