What is growing on my Java Fern!!!

Hi All,

I'm new to live plants, but this doesn't look normal to me? Has anyone seen this before? Looks like huge brine shrimp.

Wow... thats a good question. It kinda looks like your Java fern might be reproducing. Smaller plants begin to grow on the undersides of leaves. They're connected by brownish stems that look like that, although I've never seen them fuzzy like that

Java fern produces new plants from its leaves, The long fuzzy things are the roots, if you look carefully you should be able to see leaves as well.

Once the new plant has 2-3 leaves you can gently remove the new plant from the mother plant. Or when the leaf its growing from starts dying you can gently remove.

Wow! It has only been two weeks since I started the planted tank!

I'm glad that the plant is so happy :-) This makes for a really good Eco-Complete Plant Substrate commercial, as I'm not doing anything special/additional for my plants. :-D

Thanks for your help!

Is it planted in the substrate? Java fern needs to be attached to rock or wood Glad it's doing well for you.

Java Fern can't be planted in the substrate?

It shouldn't be planted. The rhizome will rot under the substrate. It should be tied down to a rock or other suface with a rubber band or thread. After maybe a week or so, it will be attached firmly.
