wrong substrate??

Plants seem to grow well in my large tank which has very small gravel as substrate. But in my goldfish tank I have quite large gravel and the plants don't do as well.

What types of plants do well with lots of natural light and large gravel? I'm tired of spending money on new plants all the time.

goldies are probably eating your plants..they adore food of any kind i have live plants(anubias, java ferns, java moss) in both marbles for subrate and gravel of all sizes.

hmmm, no they aren't eating it. The plants just seem to die or i'll find leaves floating all over the top of the water with just stalks left.

Anubias nana are pretty tough little plants. Java ferns have leaves that are easier to break, but grow fine with just the light from a room. And are tough to kill. I've read that Anacharis makes a tough plant that grows with normal light...but all mine died. Could be my extremely acidic water, though.

Well goldfishes are cold water fishes, so maybe your plants are dying because you don't have a heater? If you do have a heater, then the toxins the goldfishes create could probably kill the plants. Or it could be depending on how acidic your water is.

My plants flourish well in the natural river water, and I put a little bit of water conditioner all the time when I add in the new water to my tanks.

I agree it is likely the temp. It could also be the plant being used. Do you know what types you have? I dont have any experience with cold water plants myself.
As far as toxins go. Plants love ammonia and did very very well in my tank while I was cycling with ammonia.
