Cyclying planted tank

I added sand for the plants (thanks Psychlist1972) and Pygmy Corys' "soft Bellies". and I am wondering if I could remove a plant from its pot and replant it in the sand. I hope pete answers. I will have pics soon(my water is cloudy from the sand).

Stocking List:
Dwarf Gourami
Blue Ram
Pygmy Corys
Neon Tetras

Sand isn't enough? I will wait for pete's response I thought it was. I have about two inches of sand and that wasn't that cheap so I hope I don't have to buy soil.

What type of plant are you talking about?

In general, planting in sand is fine. My tank has sand substrate and I have a ton of plants that have grown successfully. If a particular plant is a root-feeder, it needs nutrients at the roots regardless of what the roots are buried in... since sand is inert, that might mean supplementing with a good root tab every 2-3 months.

Also, sand can compact over time, which could potentially trap toxic gasses or prevent roots from growing. To prevent this, you'd either need to stir it periodically with a chopstick or something similar, or have it stirred by burrowing tank inhabitants (such as malaysian trumpet snails).

Thanks! I always forget plant names but Psychlist1972 and I saw hime have it planted so I guess it will be fine.

I've had sand before, and planting any low maintenance plants in it is fine.... I won't vouch for the crazy expensive stuff that needs a perfect setup to grow but most anything else will be fine. If some plants seem to be struggling you can get little like tabs that you can put at their base so the get nutrients.

I don't have crazy expensive stuff so I will proceed to planting them.
