I know you aren't supposed to put the roots in gravel but is it ok to strap them onto a piece of lava rock? the wood i got seems to be bad... the water i had it soaking in smelled horrible and had some bright colors on it that i didn't notice til they had been soaking for a while...

Hi Big Joe. Yep, you can pretty much attach it to anything with a bit of fishing line or netting. Rocks are just as good as wood. Sorry your wood turned out funky - that's a bummer, but at least you found out before it went in the tank!

I never knew that you weren't allowed to root your Java Ferns into the gravel :S So they need to be strapped to something?
