Light requirements in small tanks

Hey all,

So I have a MiniBow 5 and MiniBow 2.5, each with a 9 watt compact fluorescent bulb. Unfortunately because of the hood design only one side of the tank gets most of the light. Do you think this is sufficient for plants, or do they need a minimum light level above 9 watts?

My "water weed" in the 5 has shed all of its big leaves and sprouted new, that are growing pretty well, but maybe it should be doing even better? The pokey pipe-cleaner looking plant in the 2.5 didn't really thrive.

You can get low light plants and they will still grow. Add some flourish excel every couple of days or so and you're good. Ive been looking up some plants for low light and I came upon these Eleocharis parvula "dwarf hair grass" they seem to even survive the worst tank conditions.

Yehp. That is a low light one. You can get a 15 W light if you want And then your plants will grow a lot better as long as you do fertilize your plants

I've got 2 15w lights in my 10 gallon tank so that equals 30watts, and only 20W 6,500k light bulb in my 29 gallon tank. Weird right? lol But the only lights that could be stronger than my T8 ones for my 29 gallon would be the T5 HO lights

Also, are you thinking of buying a bigger tank? If you have a bigger tank then you can put a lot more plants in

Neji, what kind of lighting do you use? I'm trying to add more watts to my 10g and I can't seem to find one!!

I have a 10 gallon tank and I have two fluorescent light bulbs. They are both 15W 6,500k each so that equals 30 watts. 10 watts more than my 29 gallon tank
