Black spots on Anubias plants

Hi All,

I have two Anubias plants, one on driftwood. Both appear happy and healthy, but recently I have noticed some black or dark spots on the leaves.
Is this a concern?
Is there something wrong with the water?
I have the light on for 7 hours, plus the tank get about 2-3 of sunlight.
I use liquid plant food every week when I do water changes, and also use Sera CO2 tablets.
Any advice?

Thanks

Ed

Hang on Ed. I'm sure someone with plant experience will help you shortly. I'm a plastic plant man myself. If you haven't already, go to the top right hand side of this screen and do a search for anubias. Several threads there on the subject.

Hi Ed. It could be either a burn mark or some type of disease (I'm not too sure) If it's a burn mark, means your plant could be getting too much light. You can maybe decrease the time of your light being on. Is any of your other plants showing some black spots or any sort? Maybe pictures of your anubias could help me & other members a bit to see the problem.

It could well be a black algae that is very slow growing. Since its an anubias it is easy to remove from the tank. Try pulling it out and spot treating with either a 19:1 water and bleach mixture or better yet flourish excel if you have some. If you use the bleach rinse do a 3 minute treatment then dechlorinate very well before adding it back to the tank. It should turn a reddish color if it kills it. I get black spots on my swords from time to time and the excel works like a charm.
