A free aquarium plant

I found out that the common plantain weed grows well under water. I have five of them in a ten gallon tank and they are just like fast growing sword plants. They look great so far. No sign of rot, but tons of new leaves. They are even flowering under water. If they die they were free anyway (I weed my mom's flowerbeds) so I can get a lot more. Just thought I'd let people know that it grows under water.

I had too look it up.
We have plenty of those around here but I wonder if it's safe for the fish since what I've been reading it has medicinal uses also.

Plantain - noxious weed or miracle plant
Here's another:
Broad-leaved Plantain

If any chemicals have been used around them(fertilizer, weed killer) that would leech out into the tank also.

I'd agree with Carol. Make sure the plant is really clean and bleached before placed into the tank to ensure your lil' fishies don't get effected by any chemicals or some sort. Don't want any deaths.

Lucy's post has two links, both with pictures (one with a slideshow) of what the plant looks like.

So, as it turns out they shed all their original leaves, but the new leaves look just like the leaves on a java fern. But my two new figure 8 puffers just devoured and shredded them, so I guess I will have to go get some more.
