Peace Lily?

I just picked up a peace lily to try for my 10 gallon, but I'm seeing conflicting info about whether it can survive in an aquarium or not. The plant looked healthy enough submerged in the LFS, but that's no guarantee.

From what I've heard it can tolerate an aquarium environment if its leaves are not submerged, but it's pretty hit-and-miss.

It was a cheap plant so if it's a lost case then oh well, but I want to know what is going on.

Spathiphyllum wallisii- AKA Peace Lily , AKA Umbrella Plant are not true aquatic plants. The general use would be for riparium or terrarium use. It may last awhile underwater but will likely not do too well. Why these stores insist on selling aquarium plants that are not aquatic is beyond me. If you would like a similar look try an Amazon Sword plant. ( not brazilian as they are not aquatic either!)
EDIT- Scratch the sword idea as they will get WAY to big for a 10 gallon!

After being disinfected, would it work in my betta tank? The plants are big enough that the leaves would not be submerged while the roots would just meet the gravel. If not, hey, I have a terra-cota pot ready to be occupied.

As long as the leaves are not submerged it will be fine. The betta will enjoy simming through the roots.

Argh, thanks Butterfly, but too late- I just called the store and they're expecting an exchange for another plant. Thanks anyway, guys.
