First plants?

I am thinking of trying some live plants in my 55 gal. tank and would like some suggestions on some that are fairly easy to grow(first try at aquatic plants).
I do have extremely low lighting at the moment, 2 30 watt lights so just over 1 WPG, and about 2-2.5 inches of fine gravel.Any ideas?

I'm new to aquatic plants myself. So far I have had success with Water Lily's, Java Moss and Java Fern. I also had another plant but I didn't know what it was, 2 of them actually. They were bulbs that came in a package and none of the plants advertised on the package grew but they did, and quite well actually. I'm speaking in past tense because I recently changed and reduced the amount of gravel in my tank so the Java Moss and Jave Fern are still fine but there wasn't enough gravel left in my tank to root the Water Lilly and mystery plant. I can tell you that it will be a fun and time consuming experience for you. My plants grew and flourished without the use of a CO2 system and with an airstone in the tank. I have since removed the airstone and my fish are doing fine. Good luck.

The plants listed in post #2 are great suggestions, i would add anubias to the list as well. And they will all do fine with your lighting. You won't need an airstone OR a C02 system.
Do you have any fish that are prone to eating plants? You should consider this as well.

You could try jungle val, I have a bunch of them in my planted tank and they grow very good at 2 wpg.
