fertilizing advice

hello everybody,

I am planning a 10 gallon heavily planted tank with red cherry shrimp. right now I have a DIY CO2 kit and a 40W light that I just ordered:

http://www.marineandreef.com/Satelli...p/rcu01002.htm

for a filter, I have a penguin 150 and a 50W heater. the substrate will be eco-complete.

for now, I would love to start off with HC for the carpet and add from there. could anyone offer some fertilizing advice that would not harm the shrimp or make them unhappy? THANKS

I'm not sure if this will help:
I think plants need fish waste as fertilizer.

Thanks Jess, I agree. Though I'd like for them to thrive as well. Iron, potassium, etc. could also be added but I am not sure what would harm the shrimp.

While fish waste can be enough in some situations, that much light and CO2 will require supplemental fertilization.

I don't know enough about shrimp to know which are more sensitive than others, but here are two posts from various forums stating no problems with using Tom Barr's Estimative Index method of fertilizing with crystal red shrimp:
