| New plants I ran to Wal-Mart which is the only place that sells plants around me, and bought a HUGE sword & wisteria. The sword has about 5-6 baby swords on it. They're still in the pots in my 55 kinda in limbo right now. A few questions, how exactly do I get them out of the pot & the spongey stuff without damaging the roots? And how should I go about planting them?
My cons & mollies are also nibbling on the leaves & roots. Should I be concerned? |

| I cut the pot off very slowly and carefully and then pick the wooly stuff off. Tweezers help. Then rinse under water to remove the rest. To plant bury up to the rhyzome. Dont put the rhyzome under the substrate.
For the Wisteria...stick it in the gravel and watch it go nuts. LOL
Wait til the babies have some nice roots growing and the pinch them off and plant the same way. These plants would all appreciate root tabs or a nutrient rich soil.
Congrats and can't wait to see pics! |

| Thanks! I will take some pics tonight.
Matt - Buffalo is like 9 hrs. away from me. I'm in Orange County, which is about 1 1/2 hrs. north of the city. Not many good fish stores down here. |

| Amanda, congrats on the new plants!
Maybe in the future you could try Aquabid. I think LiveAquaria has pretty high shipping costs and you could likely do better if that is your standard of comparison (and I'm not sure that it is).
As far as removing the pots, simply cut them off carefully. Remove the pots as best you can... you will damage the roots to some extent here. That is unavoidable. I just use my fingers to pull off the wooly stuff. I rinse potted plants in tap water and they have been fine for me. Just do your best- plants are often a lot more resilient than they get credit for. |

| Matt - priority shipping starts around $35. I don't trust standard, as they often arrive damaged.
I may register on Aquabid. I have to see if there's any plants that interets me.
I also look at Sweetaquatics.com |

| Better yet join plantedtank.net and use the swap and shop. Also if more of started using the buy sell trade here maybe none of us would have to pay outragious shipping costs. I got some plants for SirDarksol that are doing great. Much better prices than aquabid AND I get to help out another forum member Last edited by Nate McFin; June 15th, 2009 at 09:35 PM.

| I just got rid of some swords out of my tank. Nothing else to trim just yet.
Another place to try is local plant clubs. Plantedtank also has clubs listed by area. Most meet for breakfast or something every few months and have swaps. Meet some nice people as well! |

| I'd put my money on the parrot for sure, possibly the con too. I've tried plants several times with my parrot and every time it looks like a friggin' salad bar. Unfortunately, it seems to get worse as they get bigger. I eventually gave up and went for the rock pile and driftwood pile look instead. |

| I have the Cons, the pleco, BR Parrot, tetras, mollies, cories.
I JUST planted them, they look like a shark took a bite out of it, lol. That's the shape of the marks. I have standard hoods, but I've read many accounts of where swords thrive in low wattage. |
