floating plants

I have a dwarf gourami and I know they like floating plants to hide in. What are a few good ones to get that won't really be too much in my tank. Its a 29 gallon, I don't want anything that's going to look too overwhelming.

do they really? I have one but I have it planted. I got that one because its the only one I could keep planted. I'm not sure if I want a live floating one or fake one. Does it matter?

I'm not sure, it depends on the look you are going for. I have a large plastic plant from Michaels that looks a lot like Val, and it spreads out across the top of my tank. My betta hides in it a lot.

If you want a live floating plant that looks like a floating plant, (as opposed to the stem of a plant gone afloat), you could look for red root floaters. I've rarely seen them at stores, but they show up from time to time, are dirt cheap and look great. I found a single 'care sheet' online that claims they're hard to care for, but I've had the opposite experience. With low light and no CO2/fertilizer it's grown nicely and kept its color. I read that it spreads fast, but at the rate it's going it'll take over a month, I think, for it to cover my 55 gallon.

just remember not to cover the entire top as gouramis are labyrinth fish and need to breath air out of the top

I like the water sprite also but it seems to get blown down to my sponge intake LOL
