plants in a 10 gallon

hi all,
Im soon going to have a 10 gallon set up and cycling. I want to add some live plants sometime in the future. When would be the best time to plant my new plants? Also, what are some good plants that are easy to grow, yet wont get too large for my tank?
Thanks!

I would get the plants first... but you can really get them anytime you want.

As for easy to grow plants I would say anubias, and java fern. They are both almost impossible to kill and don't grow super fast.

depending on your light output in a ten gallon that would be the biggest decision maker i think. Get your plants after you've laid your gravel or substrate in the tank, before any fish or anything else that will live in the tank. planting them will make the water all cloudy.

i have a ten gallon, planted tank that you can look at in my profile, in my albums section. i have the 2 ten gallons side-by-side (a 10 gal betta tank, and a 10 gal shrimp tank) & i put a 4 ft. long, double-bulb flouroscent light fixture across the top of the both of them, so they each get ALOT of light for their small tank size (each bulb being 40 watts= 80 watts/ 20 gallons= about 4 WPG [watts per gallon]).

my 10 gals are planted with jungle val, pennywort, water wisteria, & another floating plant i'm not sure of yet... all doing great, and the shrimps and betta love it!

Thats a brilliant idea for the double light. I'll have to utilise it.

And I agree, Java moss and Anubias are practically unkillable

planting them ASAP will help your cycle along.

as for plant recommendations, that depends on the lighting you intend to have. how many WPG?
