wisteria in a 10g?

From the research I've done, water wisteria needs 2 WPG and at least a 15g tank. However I've also read about ppl keeping it successfully in a 10g tank. I like the look of it, it's readily available around here and I thought of putting it in my 10g's - at 1.5 and 1.2 wpg respectively. Should this work, provided I'm prepared to fertilize it and prune regularly?

I would think that the 15g recommendation is due to height rather than needs. Your light might work, who knows? There's no harm in trying.

Wisteria grows like a weed. The problem will be to keep it from taking over your tank LOL It does get tall but you can trim it and plant the trimmings.

Yup as long as you prune it often (possibly very often, lol) you should be fine.

so if it starts grazing the surface and I chop off the top 1/3 I can stick that in the substrate and boom! new plant?

I'm liking real plants! buy one, wait for it to grow, spread it around to the rest of the tanks...

What I was thinking was: currently in one of my 10g's I've got two pieces of driftwood each with a java fern (that I hope lives), some java moss and an anubias nana. So I could move one piece to my other 10g and stick a wisteria in the first 10g where the driftwood was. Then when it gets too big I can take part of it and put it in the second 10g

Yep that's the way exactly. I very rarely buy new plants anymore unless it's one I don't have already.
Wisteria is very pretty flowing across the top of your water and will grow an emersed type leaf if left long enough. The emersed leaf will look different.
If you don't want that just snip it off remove leaves from the stem going into the substrate and plant.

Use a sharp knike and cut through the rhizome. The knife has to be really sharp though so it doesn't bruise at the cutting point. It's that simple

Just an added note...make sure there is a decent root system and several leaves on each side of the cut. You won't necessarily be cutting right down the middle.

I was super nervous the first time I split one (a coffeefolia), but it was actually easy and both halves are doing well and growing like crazy
