After adding yet another large shady plant i again have a dead zone-very low light, I'm thinking of java moss in a mesh bag. How does this work and how long to get a nice mat?

Anyone ? I seen this on ebay and can't find it again. It looked like a flat mat, seen mesh bags called java moss mesh bags. I really wonder how long it will take to look good and how to care for it, ex. do i have to take some out occasionally?

I have seen people put Java moss on screens and use it as a "carpet" on the bottom of the aquarium. I have also seen where it used as a background on the back of the tank. Is this what you are refering to?

EDIT-As a side note I ran across this thread on another forum of someone who attached Java Moss to rope. Kind of looks like a neat project and looks great when grown out!

Yeah I really liked it. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet but when I do I will use the xmas moss like the rope in the middle of the pic.

I only seen "carpet" thanks thats all good and was i was looking for !!! I thought of the x-mas mosds on o rope too. I just wonder how much moss you get per portion. Thanks everyone.

ive yet to recieve some moss that i bought on line (aquamagic)- i believe a portion is 2 X 2

i think portions vary between different sellers. for example, aquamagic has 2x2 portions, but when i say i'm selling a portion, my portion of java moss is at least a cup. maybe you could ask the seller?

i got my chirstmas moss a couple of days ago-it was 2 X 2. It also had the background along with it (the black looking plastic net kinda thing). I attached the moss itself to a log for now. I'm hoping it will grow "down" along the back of the tank, will likely have to attache another log or stick somewhere below it.

How nice to get the mesh, i'll try to order from aquamagic. Thanks everyone. Now to get my coconuts. I will aask my neighbor if hed like to trade some beercan chicken for his coconuts . If not i'll cruise the parks and gather some hope to find small ones.

you can likely get mesh faster and cheaper at a craft store or walmart

Beth, when you rinse your bird with beer spice him up (*paprika poultry spice pepper garlic) stick the beer can where the sun don't shine and put him(standing up on the bbq we use a smoker with charcoal. Cook slow 1.5 hrs. You'll be licking the bones LEAVE beer in the can to steam it, about 1/3 and i guess you could do it in thr oven as well. Were having it sunday.
