| Java fern and Java Moss? Ok i have never put a live plant in my tank and java fern and java moss seem like the easiest.
I was wondering do i just plant them into the gravel or do i need to anchor them..
And if so how?? |

| I got a J.Fern and an Anubias
The Anubias is pretty nice, but you need to anchor it to something |

| There's a picture of my anubias in my profile if you want to see.
You basically just tie it to string to a decoration, making sure the rhizome ('root') is above gravel |

So far im thinking either java fern, java moss, or Anubis | Anubis or Java Fern can be planted in gravel or tied down. I prefer to tie them to driftwood. It is a good combination for your tank (water quality wise). Java moss also works well tied to driftwood or other decorations. You can use heavy black cotton thread which will dissolve or fishing string which will not dissolve. |

| you can get driftwood at your LFS
i have my java moss tied to driftwood, as well as my anubias so the rhizome isn't buried |

| Onions are neat looking plants. How many watts per gallon do you have? That would narrow your choices some.
BTW here is a neat how to I found. Lots of stuff you can do with Java moss - Moss walls, moss lawn, moss rocks and logs. http://www.aquamoss.net/Articles/MossLog.htm |

| Yes all three of those plants are things you tie to decor as others have kindly pointed out to you, anubis very much so, if you bury the rhizome it will rot, it will send roots down off the rhizome that are fine to let go into the gravel though. Also java moss is one of those plants that is pretty much a give away amongst planted tank people, it grows so fast and is very very common. Look for local fish clubs or a local fish forums with people trading and selling items. I am blessed with a great local forum in my area, that always has tones of fish, plants and tanks etc for very very good prices with many freebies and trade items. Once you get going your plants are great trade tools for other plants etc or a few quick easy bucks if you have the right plants and others in your area doing the same thing. |

| My LFS sells anubias that is already anchored in various pieces of driftwood. Look in some of the display tanks and you may see it in there. Mine sells it for 14.99 for both together. It is a great deal, and mine has been a dream to take care of! I have had it for over a month and have 3 new leaves on it and it is very healthy! |

| Correct on the method of calculating Watts per gallon. If you have 3 watts per gallon that really opens the door to alot of different plants. It also means that you will end up needing to dose with CO2 by either injection or dosing with Flourish Excel. This will also help keep Algae at bay. With good light and ferts Algae has an advantage as well.
You should also dose with ferts through root tabs and/or a good substrate for root feeding plants and liquid for water column feeders such as Java fern. |

| haha sorry.
It depends on what you like.Almost like asking what type of ice cream is best. LOL
Personally I like to get alot of different textures and leaf shapes.
Swords are nice but may get a little large for your tank. Maybe one of the pygmy or chain swords for the front of the tank.
Crypts are very good mid ground plants.
Anubias would be a good choice.
Hygro is another I like.
Baby tears is prolific as well. This is going in my tank Friday.
Also beware of petsmart, petco as well as some LFS that may try to sell a bog plant as an aquarium plant. Bamboo is one of these. It will not last for long in an aquarium. Make a trip to the store...see what they have, write the names down, and make sure what your getting will work. BEFORE you buy. No sense in repeating my mistakes. HAHA
I would spend some time here looking at pictures. Like I said with 3 watts per gallon you have ALOT of choices. http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_cat.php?category=5 |

| Ahaha Alright my LFS is BIG AL'S if u know what that is i think they have stores in the US.
And i should be good with Excel for mostly any plant that would fit in my tank right? |

| Excel doesn't seem to do well with Anacharis and Vals.
Big Als should have a great selection of plants as well as Excel and ferts.
Post some pictures when you get them in! |
