I got two wisteria plants from petsmart once. One looked like the first pic, and the other looked like the second.... so, I'm not sure..... Maybe there's just different kinds? Like java fern and java lace fern?

Well, both of mine turned to brown mush within like 2 weeks, so I guess it didn't really matter, lol. Hopefully you actually have a green thumb, unlike me.

Oh no, I'm sorry.

I've heard that its hit or miss with wisteria, some people say its so easy to grow, some say it just dies so easily.

Someone in my tank keeps digging up the wisteria though

Many aquatic plants are grown as emersed plants before shipping because it's easier to grow/ship them. When they are planted submerged the old leaves will frequently die and new different leaves will grow out. frequently they just die.
That said submerged Wisteria does look like the way you expected Wisteria to look. The other pic looks like wisteria grown emersed.
Check this page out. Be sure to scroll all the way down and look at the pics. http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=137

I got some wisteria from Petsmart, that looked like your first pic. It grew, and now the top half looks like the second pic. The bottom still has a few leaves on it, but they are slowing dying.

Most aquatic plants go ahead and grow submerged leaves. That's why most Swords for instance shed their leaves when planted and then the leaves may come back a different shape or even color. Marble Queen sword is notorious for this. But still a beautiful plant. Many of our aquatic plants are Emersed part of the year in the wild and submerged when spring rains come and they remain submerged for most of the year.
My Oak Leaf watersprite is one shape under the water but when it floats or reaches the top will start growing completely different leaves in the air.
Tropica is one of the biggest and best know aquatic plant business world wide and they have some really interesting things at their site check out the "Tips and Tricks for Handling Plants in the Aquarium" and their Company profile shows how plants are grown for the aquarium trade. Takes a minute to load but well worth the wait

Oh wow thanks for the info. I've heard of the whole emersed and submerged thing, I didn't know that wisteria did that though, I've never owned it before. So, hopefully I'll end up with a pretty plant, and not a dead one
