Thinking about live plants....

I am onn Plantgeeks.com, and it's making me want to plant my 55 gal. & by bettas 10 gal. They are both low light tanks, b/c I can't afford to buy a new hood. So far I have found that anubias, crypt, hornwort & java fern are good low light plants. I tried java moss, but I think I killed it. So I got rid of it. What else do I have to do to have a beautiful planted tank? My 55 gal. has a sand substrate, and my 10 gal. has colored gravel.

I'm new to having plants in my fish tanks as well! My tanks are low light too! I have some floating oakleaf water sprite which can be planted too and some anubias, java moss and Pennywort, java fern. I like the look of hortwort but apparently it has to be floated or weighted down with a weight and can't be planted and if the needles drop it can be really messy so that plant i've opted to wait on till I have more experience.

It's nothing special as i'm just starting out and mind you my son loves pirates so it'll probably be a long time before we have just driftwood and plant kind of a tank but heres a pic. And the only plant that I actually have to plant is the pennywort as the the others can be tied to rocks or decor or floated.

Good luck!

If my tank looks as good as that, I'll be happy.
I have to see what my LFS stocks, but I prefer live plants over the plastic anyday!
And my bettas will probably love a nice planted tank.
lol.

These tanks are listed as low-light, and are what I eventually want my tanks to look like.
What would it take?
What is that very tall plant? Don't angels like plants like that?

I think that won feathery tall plant towards the middle is water wisteria. I think sometimes Angels like to uproot some plants. Not sure if thats all plants though. When I used to have angels they were always rooting around in the sumstrate so I can see that happening though.

Those tanks are beautiful!!!

Try this site as well your love it and i'm a member there too. I'm CKJ. Expecially take a look at their swap n shop as you can fint lots of plants for sale all the time! Here's the address. plantedtank.net

I like plant geek but the only thing I wish they could elaborate on is how each plant is planted. As some can be tied to rocks or decor or floated.

Let me know what you think about the site!

Forgot to mention it's the forum area that I go to mostly.

That's where the swap n shop is and I also like to read the tank journals too. Someone here on this site recommended that site and between this site and that one you'll find tons of info!
