I got a few plants from a friend today to put in my new 10g betta tank. I have them in a bucket of treated water right now, and I want to make sure I do things right before putting them in with Alpha.

The plants are: 1 anubias plant, 1 banana plant, 1 lily bulb, and 1 unknown bulb. The unknown bulb is pretty small, not sure what it is.

I've never had live plants before, so I've got a few questions.

First, is there anything I need to do before I plant them- quarantine, wash, disinfect, etc.? If so, how would I go about it?

Also, how exactly do I plant them? Do I just stick them in the substrate, or what? I think the banana plant is supposed to go with the bottom 3rd in the substrate, but I don't know about the others.

Is there anything else I need to know before I put the plants in?

Oh, one more question. The water they're in right now is cool, do I need to keep them warm? And do I need to acclimate them to the temperature or parameters in my tank, or will they be okay?

Sorry for the triple post, but I'd like some answers soon so I can put the plants in. Will they be okay in the bucket for now?

i think they will be ok aslong as they are covered in water. when i got my plants i just put them in the substrate without treatment or QT, in heinsight i should have QTed them, but nothing bad has happened except a few snails, so i think they will be fine

If your friend had snails or sick fish they need to be disinfected.

If not then
Anubias - can be attached to rocks, wood or laid on the substrate and weighted down but the rhizome cannot be planted.
Banana plant - Plant bottom 1/3 in substrate. May have to lean a rock against it to get it to stay planted.
Bulbs are usually planted half way down in the substrate.
Hope you don't mind I merged your posts.
Sorry for the delay getting to you

Thanks for the help The tank they came from was snail- and disease-free, so I didn't disinfect.

I've placed the plants in the tank right now, but I have yet to decide on their final placement. Alpha was really curious, he kept flaring at the anubias.

Speaking of anubias, you bury the roots but not the rhizome, correct?

Also, the anubias and the banana plant both have algae on them. Can I scrub that off with a toothbrush or something (in tank water, if course) or should I just let them be?
