What are some good surface plants ?

Anacharis does really well floating. With a little creativity, so does Java moss (and its cousins, like Christmas moss). Duckweed works in low-water-flow tanks, but can make life difficult for some fish (particularly at feeding time).

Butterfly

Water sprite is great floating or planted. New plants develop in the lobes of the leaves if floated and can get really big.

i have a fav floating plant i think may suit its"riccia fluitans ,common name crystalwort ,riccia ,attractive shade of bright green ,spreads into a floating mat that can be 2in deep and up to 20 inches in diameter ,propagation is by division and this plant can multiply very quickly .provides shade ,fry refuge and spawning sites likes bright light ,pH 6.8 ,temperature 20-26c(68-79 f)takashi amano uses it in his tanks sometimes during photosynthesis ,riccia canproduce up to thousands of fine oxygen pearls ,it has been named "the night of the thousand stars "of the orient:;
