How often should I use this?

Last weekend, I bought a whole load of new plants for my 29Gal Aquarium after stripping it down on Friday and scrubbing it to get rid of an algae problem I was having.

So far so good. The tank is crystal clear and looks great. The thing is, I bought a bottle of Plant Grow too, because the last lot of plants I bought all died on me. The bottle tells me how much to put in my Aquarium, but not how often I should use it.

Any ideas? Would it be safe to use it like once a week, or just when I do partial water changes? I don't want to end up overdosing the plants and suddenly having a regrowth of algae or anything like that. I did spend quite a hefty amount on these plants. I'd like to see them do well.

Most plant supplements should say on the bottle how much and how frequently to dose the tank.

If it does not, I would do it about once a week, after a water change. That's what I do with my supplement. I used to use Interpet's 'Flora boost' but have recently changed and tried a couple of brands to see which works best- and I also have little tablets that I plant right beside plant roots. I found with most if not all brands it recomends once a week (or with substantial water changes)

Check that your plant supplement is nitrate free (as you don't really want to be adding nitrates to your tank.) Also if you buy a decent supplement, it will state on it that it will not result in algae bloom if used propertly. Check the instructions and post back.

Do you know the brand you bought?

If you are unsure just try the main brands, Interpet "Flora Boost", API "Leaf Zone" Nutrafin "Plant Gro" - see what works, but I find that they are all pretty effective if used regularly.

Okay, I just checked the bottle. It didn't come in a box. The brand is "Nutrafin Plant Gro". It states on the bottle to add one capful per 10 Gal, which seems about right, and says that it's Iron enriched. I did check the ingredients and there's no nitrates in there.

However, it doesn't say how often it's safe to use it, which I still find rather strange. I think I'm going to take your advice though and just use it once a week after a water change. When I do a water change, I use water conditioner too, so I don't see there being too many issues with it. I know Nutrafin is a pretty safe bet. Their products come recommended by quite a few people.

Thanks for your advice.
