How do I tell if my plants are doing well

I have 2 java ferns, 2 wendtii, and an amazon sword. How to I tell how well they are doing?

They all seem to be lush looking, with bubbles that form on leaves (oxygen right?), and i think the wendtii is already spreading because i see a little sprout of something next to it.

not yet cause i spent the extra money and got eco complete plant substrate which is very rich, i might invest in a fertilizer in a few weeks, or next time i head out to the LFS.

Ill probably head out friday cause the guy there said he's getting dwarf hairgrass, and he will order red cherry shrimp for me

your plants should be fine. I use plant grow formula and my aquatic plants are bright green very very rich color I could say.

You just need to have good lighting. I'd say florescent lighting would be best. Incandescent lighting isn't very good for the plants. Too strong

I keep a pleco in with my tanks, and sometimes I have plants in my discus/angelfish tank, and they just love trying to demolish them. So some how my plants are still alive. I barely ever put plant grow.

I never bought flourish before, but my tank is healthy.

So I am saying that if you have a healthy aquarium, then you'll be fine.

Beware Flourish Excel and crypts of any sort. I have heard that they tend to suffer from crypt melt when a tank is dosed with the stuff.
