Quarantine Plants?

I this a strange question? Would one quarantine plants?
How do you keep from bringing "things" along with plants that have been purchased from say your LFS into your tank?

Usually a bleach dip is recommended to get rid of that, if the plant can stand it. I've also heard of ice water being used...

Me too, what's going on? Very confusing. But thanks for the reply. Maybe bleach but not ice cold water. That would kill everything including the plant.

Yeah, i've never done it myself. I think it was maybe just a quick dip? Not sure on the specifics there. But bleach dips generally work, though some plants can't handle it.

The thread was moved from Buy/Sell/Trade to the correct forum.

Pink, your replies must have crossed in transition.

I didn't find out about the quarantine for plants until AFTER I added them into my tank along with pond snail eggs. It's been 6 months and I'm still trying to get rid of the slimy critters.

I usally do a bleach dip, especially now after I learned how certain parasites, like camallanus worms http://www.petfish.net/kb/entry/154/ can travel in a drop of water.
I lost ALOT of fish to these darn worms.

I use a quarantine tank just like i do for fish. I use a relatively small tank; 10gal, i take about 1 gal of tank water and place them in this dip - shake and let sit - and then rinse off gently but thoroughly and cleaning the roots and removing dead material with treated fresh warm water, then i place in the tank (with a heater) for approx 24hours before adding to the tank. And i never buy plants form petsmart or petco (just a personal preference) as they usually have dead/dying damaged plants mixed with healthy plants - this too me only increases the risk of parasites/disease ( and in talking to some of the workers there - they have numerous plants that arrive this way).
