Yes, and certain types also bloom flowers. I have Anubius Barteri and Anubias Nana, they have both bloomed flowers many times. They are very easy plants and look great. Check out www.plantgeek.net for more info.

Sure, it will grow. It is a very common plant and very easy to take care of. Bateri gets pretty big, Nana stays short and tends to grow sideways. Barteri is more common though. If you have both, they look great together. They really fill space well.

Well, I could really say that they don't need a lot of lighting. They can stand in low light conditions. I believe they grow somewhere in south America, and deep in the waters where the light doesn't always reach the plants.

So you could have a plant full of those and not always turn on the lights, and they should be fine.

My friend has some with florescent lighting, and he keeps it on from about 8 in the morning to 11 at night. Although they seem to be fine, but I don't know which type of anubius he's got.

I think Java Ferns don't need too much lighting either. Though mine are fine in 8 hrs lighting.

I believe Anubias come from West Africa. At least the nana variety does. That could explain why those plants are particularly expensive down here (I have paid USD10 to 20 each, depending on the size).

However this easy to keep, low light, slow growing plant is really hardy; just make sure the main root (rhizome) is not buried altogether in the substrate, secondary roots will grow and provide good substrate attachment.

My Oscars just ignore them. The barteri -but not the afzelii- is Silver Dollar safe, which is a great thing for this veggie-craving piranha relatives.

Anubias are the only live plants that I can keep healthy at the moment. They are easy to care for but if you keep them in too strong light for too much time, the leaves will "burn"
