Found it at home... could it work?

Since I have been kinda broke lately due to tuition... I have not been able to gat me an extra light fixture for the 28 gallons....

I found a lamp at home, it is kinda old, but it has two long 17 inch fluorescent tubes, each one of them says: "cool white 15w appliance". The lamp has a stand as well... could it work alongside with the one I already have? (if I can install it somehow)...

15+15+17= 47/28 = 1.6

I just want low-light plants... do you guys think this little lamp could work? or will I loose my plants?

I would think that it'd work. I'd just be extra careful cause it wasn't made for aquarium use, and some exposed electrical stuff or whatever could be risky.

I was told by an old time fish keeper that the tubes you buy from the hardware store which are cheaper since they do not say 'aquarium' lights work just as well and are fine to use. just make sure you get the same wattage as what your tank hood normally holds.
I would also think that low light plants, which are what I have would do fine with that wattage. Im just not sure about the lamp. Do you plan on just keeping it next to the top of the tank? Or beside it? I dont know how that would work for your plants tho.

Probably beside the top (since it has a stand), as close as possible from it... somehow. I will probably figure out a way to do install it close to the top of the tank, so that it stays as close of the hood as possible.
