Spiral Val and Gravel?

Thought I would play with some planting so I picked up a couple cheap spiral val at the petsmart. One of them had roots the other looked like clippings. They were 2 bucks for the pair so I thought, what the heck. I placed them in opposite corners in the back and figured the rootless clutch would take root. Well its been a few days and the rootless is green and happy, even looking to take root, the other is wilting and losing color. Both have equal lighting and are in similar depths of medium gravel substrate (plantgeek said it should be ok). Why is the rooted plant look to be dying where as the other is thriving?

Sometimes bigger, older, rooted plants go into shock when moved to a tank with different lighting, temp etc.

Your plant should recover and send out new leaves. Just clip off the dead/dying leaves and wait to see if new ones emerge.
