Yay! free hornwort!

Yay! I went to petsmart today for my very last addition for my 28 gal which was a lil platy. then i found the only decent employee i ever found there, the one that has almost always been there when i go 2 get my fish/supplies.

after getting me a dwarf platy, (note:not the same as a ballooned one) i asked the girl about what kind of plants they had and she gave me a little piece of hornwort for freeeeee!

now, ive been reading a lot about it and heard the branches can become plants of their own... is there a particular way to do cuttlings so they become plantsof their own?

Easy. Let the hornwort grow, (it grows FAST!) then cut of a bit of stem and plant it in the gravel. If you don't have any other plants in your tank - let it take over because fish LOVE it.

BTW. A 'Dwarf' platy is just a baby

actually i was researching and i also asked dino (who has quite a lot of exp with livebearers) and he told me these are the same as regular platies but they are smaller in size as adults (like one inch and a half). Although I wouldn't mind it getting regular sized if it ends up happening .

anyway, do these need to be planted? or can they just float? does it matter that i have it anchored to the airline tubing close to both my filter and pump

Thanks!

Hornwort is one of those miracle plants that can do anything! You can have it floating or planted or both!

I just got hornwort too for my molly.. when she has her kids, they can hide in it and escape the big bad adults of the tank.

The stuff is pretty sweet.. and yeah it looks like it's gonna grow fast (it's only been 1 day so idk yet).
