Moss walls

So -- just to check -

That weird green hard foam stuff you can get at wal-mart you put fake plants in is okay to put in your tank? To make a moss wall?

It won't hurt the fish?

I think I know what you're talking about and I would highly suggest not even trying it.

I believe its the plastic canvas you'e looking for. Its usually sold in or around the yarn section at most stores http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Plastic-canvas.jpg. It has many aquatium usages - from dividers to support for sad moss walls and its great for covering any holes you might have in the lid to keep jumpers in.

Yeah, the problem with the florist's foam is that it's such fragile stuff. It will break down just from the water running over it, and will clog your filter and potentially your fishes' gills.

As the Laughing Man (read; Miss TKFury) said, you could use some of the plastic stuff used to make the hook-woven images (it's a grid of plastic and you weave yarn through it to make images that look like they're made out of shag carpet) to make a moss wall. I think the usual method is to connect two pieces together with moss in between. This should also baffle the bettas' scent a little bit, further decreasing the stress.
