Java Moss

I have two quick questions about Java moss.

1) How fast does it grow?

2) Is it good to make a moss wall with?

thanks!

Well I can only answer (1): it depends on your lighting/conditions.

My Java Moss, being in a new tank (lots of nutrients floating about), attached to driftwood, and under ~2.2-2.3 wpg 6700K lighting has doubled in bulk in 1.5 months.

The bunch in my 10 gal tank under standard lighting and with no extra ferts has grown slightly during the same time period, but not a whole lot.

Like Shiana says, Java responds to the tank conditions and lighting, but is also an easy plant to keep. It seems to do well under lower lighting, and will attach to about anything. And there's a few posts here already from members that have made moss-walls with good success.

Whether it will grow fast or slow, you can be confident that this is a plant that will do well even in low-light conditions . (Of course in higher light, it should grow faster.) You can go ahead with the moss wall. Though if you don't have any algae eaters, you probably should get some to keep Java Moss free of algae, especially under low-light conditions. Algae can kill any plant (by blocking light from reaching its leaves).
