Christmas Moss

Went to my LFS today looking for some supplys and wanting to get a couple more plants for my planted tank. I really wanted some Java Moss but they didn't have any. I ended up getting some Christmas tree moss. I looked and the reciept doesn't give the scientific name.

Here is a pic of it I found on the internet: Christmas moss
Mine looks just like this but is a darker green than shows up in the picture.

I purchased about a 3" by 3" square of it and stuffed it in my substrate near some flat rocks and a bed of gravel/flourite mix I would like it to eventually attach to.

Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

There is a site called plantgeek.net. They have a lot of info on plants..you can try there and see if you can find it.

Yup, PlantGeek is the place to go to for great info. You can also look at this thread and website: Beautiful Aquatic Mosses - maybe it will help you determine what kind of moss yours is.

Thanks for the links. Looks like moss is really easy to deal with. Hopefully it is for me as well.

It is like Java moss. Amano-Sama uses the stuff instead of Java moss because it has a more interesting shape. Pretty much any conditions that Java moss can live in, this stuff can live in.

The Christmas Moss is living just fine but doesn't seem to be growing. I just ordered some new lights though and will soon hook up some CO2.

Those sound like words of wisdom. My Christmas Moss seems to be perky and still has good color but doesn't seem to be going anywhere yet. Still haven't gotten my light yet though.

I want it to be a carpet in the tank along with some Micro Swords. I purchased two planted Micro Swords and split them up into 5 bunches I have planted throughout the tank.

It sure is, admin should change the thread title, I don't seem to have that power.

I just want to call it Chirstmas tree moss because it looks like little Christmas trees. Very cool.
