I will be buying some plants for a new tank that is arriving in the next couple days. It is a 18 gallon tall tank with 2 18" bulbs (30 watts). I was thinking to put a daylight bulb and a plant bulb in it, although I will probably use whatever is in it to start, although I don't know what that is (Eclipse 1 TL). I have fluorite substrate mixed with a little gravel and plan to put driftwood in it as well.

Any suggestions for good plants, or probably more important, plants to avoid. Theoretically anything up to moderate light requirements should work, but I know that theory doesn't always coincide with reality.

Elodea
Wisteria
cryptocornes
Java fern
Anubias
Ambulia
water sprite

Avoid any variegated plants and any red plants. They need very high light since they're lacking in chlorophyll.

And if your tank is not fully stocked, I suggest a little BN pleco to maintain the plants by keeping them sparkling clean and free of algae!
