How to anchor plants to the gravel firmly?

Hello

I just set up a 20-gallon freshwater plant tank with some anacharis plant and some cognac seedlings. They were a bit wobbly and weak because I placed them in a plastic cup of water for 2 days while I was setting up the tank. But the plants keep uprooting and floating in the tank. Any tips on how to firmly anchor the plants to the gravel? Thanks in advance!

I think that if you do not have enough gravel in your tank you will have problems rooted them in. With my plants, I just pushed them way in and used surrounding gravel to build up around the base stem. But if there is not enough gravel, it would be hard to do this. Other than that, I have no other ideas.. Im sure that others here will be able to help you out with more ideas.

Thanks, capekate!

I think I didn't bury the plants deep enough.......I'll try to get more gravel. Thanks again!

Oh, and do you think cutting down the anacharis plant would help? They are quite long and can easily get swept away by the filter current. Thanks in advance!

I tryed my best to have live plants in my fish tank. I bought a couple i liked.. washed them really good.. got them nice and tucked into the gravel so they would hold tight and grow.. bought really expensive lights just for the plants.. invested in specal stuff to go in the water to help the plants grow.. blah blah blah.. 2 weeks into all this.. I woke up and the plants had been nipped off all the way to the gravel. I am assuming the fish did this.. I have not replaced them.. I guess ill stick with the plastic stuff. I dont like them but at least the fish cant eat them.

You can fasten them with fishing line or thread to rock or drift wood. We use 3-4" of silica sand in our 120g to keep our plants down.
