What is a good, low-light carpet plant for a natural-themed tank?

Hello

I'm planning to do a redo (again) on my 20-gallon freshwater tank because I once again failed on trying to achieve a natural, planted theme. We found out about an excellent pet shop in a faraway city that we are planning to check out someday to see if they finally have a good supply live plants and natural decoratives like rocks and driftwood. I thought that the substrate covered with grass-like plants would be very nice. What type of low-light carpet plant would you recommend? Very sorry.......not very good at selecting plants.... Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and.....ur, to the owner of the pics below, please don't mind if I post them here! They're extremely good.... and I want to be a great aquascaper like you....

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

Great to hear your trying again on your planted adventure! I love Hemianthus callichridois "Cuba" for a low-light carpet. Look it up on www.Tropica.com.

HC is supposed to be a beautiful carpet. I have some in quarantine right now. The biggest problem with the stuff is that it's a Cuban plant, which means that there has been very heavy restrictions on transporting it. Some Chinese growers got the stuff (China wasn't involved in the ban on Cuban products), and so they have the majority of the market right now, although a few Americans have begun growing it. Because it's fast-growing, I expect it to be more widely available within a year or so.
The other problem with the stuff is that it doesn't deal with being deprived of light very well. This means that if shipping gets delayed at border quarantines, the plant can arrive dead.

Thanks everyone! The Cuban plant sounds great. I went to a pet store and they had some of those, but they're very expensive! I bought a seedling plant for a lower price and I'll try to grow and propagate it to save money. Thanks again for the info!
