if you put a container with some tank water and stones in the sun, algae will grow. moving the container under a desk lamp at night should speed up growth.

If you're looking for a moss-wall, you could set it up a rock-wall along the back of your tank (use silicone sealant or aquarium epoxy to connect them) and then get some Java moss and tuck it into gaps in the wall.
If you want an algae wall, keep the water filled with nutrients (when you do water changes in one of your tanks, do a water change in the rock tank, putting the old tank water in this one), leave it in the sun, and let nature take its course.

ok that's good advice but what if i want to use that same algae from the rock and make a moss wall using plastic mesh

Not sure how that would work. Except for hair algae, most algae does not hold together very well once moved from its "perch." If you want to make an algae wall, your best bet would be to get a sheet of aquarium-safe, relatively porous material and follow the above guidelines for getting some algae growing on it.

My understanding of a moss wall is that moss is grown on it, not algae....Though algae might grow on glass, rocks and other surfaces, it isn't exactly what is described as a "moss" wall. I have seen moss grown as a wall using plastic mesh, and I believe instructions are available for that through this site.

Susitna's right, pinky. I missed that you used "moss wall" the second time. You can make an algae wall with algae, but it will definitely look different than a moss wall, which is usually made of Java Moss.
I actually like the look of thick algae, so I kind of like the idea of an algae wall, but it would be a far different thing than a moss wall.
