I'm looking to buy a new plant or two for my tank. It has smooth stones as a substrate and there are two java ferns that I'm trying to nurse back to health in there. They aren't doing well because I did not properly plant them, but they seem to be getting a little better. The tank is 10 gallons with one betta and some plant fertilizer.

I'd like to buy a couple more different types of plants to spruce up the tank a bit. What are some good and widely available plants that would do well in this type of environment? Thanks guys.

The single easiest plant that I've seen is Java moss. I've had absolutely no problems raising the stuff. All you've got to do is use a piece of plastic netting (my mom gets oranges in the plastic net bags. I snag the bags and use them for this purpose) to attach them to a rock, piece of driftwood, or ceramic pot.
I've actually never seen it being sold for a reasonable price around here, but you can get it online pretty cheap. Dino/CWC offer it at a reasonable price (and with reasonable shipping). One guy on Aquabid offers free shipping on a number of different kinds of mosses.
I've also had good luck with water wysteria.

i get great deals for it at my LFS, and you really cant kill the stuff. java fern is also a good plant that needs nothing but a little light, and to be tied down

WOW I didnt know people here offered things like that!! I would love to purchase plants/fish/anything from the ones that have taught us so much about the CORRECT fish loveing ownership! not to mention, they wouldnt fill us with fish poo like alot of LFS I bet!
