Need Help with Pruning / Propagating Water Sprite

Okay...less than 5 PPM nitrates is nice for my chocolate gouramis but the tank is starting to look like a refugium! The water sprite has gone totally crazy and I'd like to prune some of it and transplant the cuttings into other tanks. I've cultivated and transplanted some floating water sprite leaves but how should I prune back the planted monster? It is literally crawling out of the tank!

I have some nice sharp scissors, but where to cut such that I can plant the trimmings, rather than float them? Or do I have to cut the branches and float them until they develop runners and then plant?

Fish are easy. Plants are hard.

Thanks, as always!

It should separate into plantlets when you gently pull it apart with your fingers. then those little plantlets will already have roots so then you can just plant it in your substrate. I have it both ways also.

Thanks, Carol. I see the plantlets on the old and detached floating leaves so I separated the old leaves from the new plantlets and planted a few of them, but what would you recommend to thin and transplant the dense stalks? Can the stalks be pulled apart too or should I cut them?

I have all these stalks shooting up and over the top of the water from the plant in the back of my tank. It's a nice canopy, but it's thick and blocking nearly all the light from above and it is becoming a bit much!

When they get all matted together I tend to pull out what I want and throw away the rest. The stems break really easy. Try cutting it and see what happens
