New Tank

We have just set up our new tank and its about a week old now, see picture below, we put some plants in on Sunday and already they are looking eating and possible diseased as its has spots on and a lot of the leaves are dying (he smaller plant) and now it seems like the larger one is gong that way too.
The tank it set at 24/25 degrees centigrade had all the safe start chemical in, and also put in the plant fertilizer as the aquatic shop recommended.
1. What are we doing wrong, only put the plants in after 4 days?? Could it be something that has come from where we got them?

We have also noticed this evening that there is some little worm thing swimming around, its small and cream in colour and you would miss it if you didn't notice it wriggling
2. Does anyone know what it might be? Is it something to worry about?

Finally we have decided to go for a Male Betta as think this would be the most attractive fish, is it better to keep him on his own or can we put another 1 or 2 fish with him?? Do Bettas suffer from being lonley
How long does it take to cycle a 30 Litre tank about a US 7 gallon Tank?

Below is a picture of our tank...................hopefuly the picture on my signature.

Any help thoughts and ideas are much welcome, from the UK by the way.

Thanks

i'm no expert on plant health, tho i've read that it's absolutely normal to lose many/most leaves when a plant is transitioning to a new environment. however - you should check the lighting requirements of the plants you have, as some require ALOT of light (4w per gallon, etc) and maybe CO2. plants may do better in different subtrates also... flourite, eco-complete... and then sometimes a petstore tries to get away with selling 'aquatic' plants that aren't really aquatic...
don't know what to tell you about the worm thing, tho someone else posted something similar here in the beginners forum, and apparently it was nothing to worry about - check that out if you're unsure.
bettas tend to do best on their own, but if you go to the betta sub-forum, i'm sure there are plenty of suggestions there for appropriate tank mates.

good luck, and welcome.

hello, I was reading in the forum and someone also had just set up a new tank with live plants and had a outbreak of worms. They say that it was planaria, you may want to look it up. That plants carry them and you may have brought it in with the plant from where ever you bought it. It is posted here on beginners and is called "Help something is in my tank" posted on Feb. 14. They said fish love snacking on them. but make sure it is what you have first before you add fish. I hope it helps. Good Luck!

Are the plants "crypts?" These plants usually suffer from "crypt rot" or "crypt melt" when they're moved. They usually grow back. I think it's the leaves adjusting to a new water chemistry.

Bettas prefer to be the only inhabitant. If you are going to put others in the tank, they should be peaceful bottom-feeders, and they should be put in the tank before the betta. However, there are very few such critters who will fit in a 7g.

Unsure about the worm thing. How long? (mm, cm, inch?)
