aquarium plant insect parasite?
I got home from work today and was checking on my aquarium when I noticed that there were holes on the leaves of my Argentine Sword plant. In some places the skeleton of the leaf is still there but the leaf membrane between the veins is missing. I noticed what appears to be a rather large insect on one of the leaves. It looks kinda squished and is not moving. The insect is about 7mm by 3mm. I also noticed two sand grain sized objects resting on the leaves but I don't know if it is just debris or something more serious and sinister...=p I did purchase some plants yesterday and put them in my tank. They were java moss, water sprite, and wysteria. I don't know if the insect was introduced with these plants or if it was always present on the sword. Does anyone know anything about aquarium plant pests and what to do about them? Any advice would be great. At present I don't have any fish (it is a new aquarium and is still cycling).
