How do you plant in gravel?

I bought plants from the store that came in little plastic pots with their roots wrapped in wool with a stone inside. I don't know if I did the right thing, but I took them out of the pots, gently took the wool off and placed the plants into my gravel substrate. Did I just doom them all to die doing this?

Some of the plants kept floating up too so I had to pack more gravel and a random small stone or two around them to keep them down. I got a tropical sunset - which was hard to keep down as it didn't have long roots - some stuff that I think is grosso, and some other stuff that the dude at the store said was relatively easy to maintain o_o. Anyway, I more or less stuck the plants into the gravel... And yes, this is my first time with real plants.

If I did it wrong, how should I have planted those plants?

I attached a pic of what my tinytank looks like now.

All I know is if the gravel is deep enough they should stay put. Plants are usually droopy when you first put them in or move them around.

/Phew! Thanks guys! Will they die if I move them around too much? Before they take root, I mean. Also, is there such a thing as too many plants? I'm worried that transpiration at night may deoxygenize the tank.
