is larger gravel a problem?

i'm thinking of adding plants to my already-established tank
the problem is my gravel might be a little too big (pea-sized)
i know that plants do better in finer substrate
would that be a problem? or could i just insert root supplement tabs into the gravel?
help please

I don't think it is a problem for most plants. I kept plants in larger sized gravel than what you mentioned. I would worry more about lighting than substrate.

I'm sure the plants will grow faster in sand-sized substrates, but isn't necessary to keep the plants healthy.

That would be fine. Just dont get bigger rocks than that because then if you fish have babies then you might not find the fry.
