could be.... you could try it and see how it goes. i have dwarf hairgrass in my planted tank but i have 5 wpg and co2. Do you have the fluorescent bulbs or incandescent bulbs?

I don't know that you can grow hairgrass on 20 watts, unforuntately.

Incandescents don't really do anything for plants. You should replace it with a spiral compact fluorescent.

No, you just have to have the right environment for it, which includes a small grain substrate, decent lighting and fertilizer(you can just buy root tabs for it).

Other than that, its pretty resilient. You should have decent luck with it. If you really want to get into planted tanks, check out plantgeek.net. They have an excellent plant guide, and very knowledge..umm...geeks there that can help you

Am having no luck with mine, and it's got all the elements you mentioned. It doesn't help that it gets stampeded by my corys. For some reason, they love to 'rest' on it. As you can imagine, it's not like the stalks can take that, so there's lots of broken up bits. Ooooooh, those corys! I'm sometimes there in front of the glass and there's three of them doing it. Destroying my hard aquascaping work. Am there shouting at them to move along, but no luck.

Several of the folks from Plankgeek also post here.
Both Butterfly and I are mods at Plantgeek.

As mentioned, this plants does a lot better with, in substrate food tabs vs added to water fertilizers.
