Is it true plants only last 6-8 weeks?
Hey everyone, i was wondering if it is true that aquarium plants normally last 6-8 weeks? this is what i was told by my lfs but i dont really trust them after they told me that i could have a betta with my dwarf gourami.

Absolutely not true, and this could go right up there on stupid aquarium advice. The plants that will only last 6 to 8 weeks are the ones that are not aquatic plants, so they will begin to rot. Of course, plants need light and nutrients and have a specific temperature range, so I guess if you dont' respect these, you may run into problems after a while, but generally speaking, no, absolutely not true.

OMG, he's KNOWINGLY selling you non-aquatic plants? Yeah, I'd definitely try to find another store. I hear there's a lot of good ones in Melbourne (don't know if you're from VIC).

Oh I imagine they'll have loads in Sydney. Maybe even more than Melbourne. Although I never really noticed any. I was only there for a week or so, but already keeping an eye out for the old LFS.

Good LFS in Melbourne? Really? *perk* Where? Tell me tell me tell me!! I only know one in Prahran, and that's far away... and I don't drive. *sigh*
I meant to ask, Armadillo.. how long were you in Shep? My cousin was there for a while as well.... never been there myself.

Oh I used to be based in Prahran!!! When I was in Oz (for about 4 months, last year), I 'lived' in Prahran (in an appartment facing the Alfred Hospital, right against the Park), and worked in Shep (in a hotel there 4 days/week), working for SPC Ardmona.
I dont' have a particular address in Melbourne, but that's where a lot of people go for their fish needs, and I heard there were a lot over there.

... absolutely not true ... UNLESS the plants come to you in such a bad condition that they'll be able to live for only a few weeks or months longer. Those fish store people are funny, aren't they, lol. Healthy aquatic plants can and should live for YEARS.
