Hi

Ive just bought some java fern, it has foam round it with a lead weight.
Can I just place it on the gravel with the weight still on, or do I need to remove the weight and cover roots with gravel.

i would think remove the foam and weight and cover it with gravel or tie it down to something

Java Fern does best when the roots are exposed, and all that stuff is removed. Try tying your java fern to a piece of driftwood. Within a couple of weeks, it should be attached on its own, and the string or thread can be removed. It really looks great this way!

Yeah, and I don't think you can put anything lead into your aquarium, correct me if I'm wrong.
